Collaboration Is Key For Effective Security
Having recently discussed a retrofit electric fencing case study, we thought we would develop this theme by talking today about how we are often asked to provide a security solution for a site which, at the time of its original construction, was not required.
This might sound odd to those of you more familiar with handling project tenders, being that they require everything bar the shoe size of the consultants to be quoted! However, it is more common than many people might realise.
A good example is The Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt. Your initial reaction to that might be 'Yes, that figures but back in 2584 BC they didn't exactly know fence detection was an option!'and you would be right :)
However, being serious, we are talking when tourist travel became more popular and the impact that had upon this unique, historical monument - ie. souvenir hunting. The Pyramids had started to suffer damage at an alarming rate so something had to be done to protect the perimeter and guard against unwanted intruders. The solution was to monitor over 13 kilometres of perimeter fencing by splitting into multiple zones using a combination of 2 of our security products.
Other examples include royal residences and palaces, many of which are centuries old so need regular reviews of their security provisions. Then there are power stations, manufacturing facilities and oil refineries which had security systems supplied at the time of their construction but that might have been 10, 20 or even 30 years ago. This type of building is sometimes earmarked for refurbishment as a whole and that will of course mean a retrofit perimeter security solution.
Effective retrofit security has to be considered carefully and we find the answer to be good collaboration - ie. how well the specifiers and consultants work with the suppliers of the technology, such as ourselves. We have previously mentioned our work with consultants in our perimeter security blog but only in the context of new build projects - click here to read the full article.
When it comes to retrofit cases, consultants sometimes need even greater support from their suppliers and this is where our expertise as security system manufacturers and our extensive experience in the real world gives us a clear advantage. We can offer consultants just the type of support they want - ie. a costed and detailed solution for just about any retrofit project from basic industrial manufacturing facilities right up to EKPs (Economic Key Points). The latter is a very important sector to many governments and we are privileged to have already collaborated on this type of project in Britain.
Our experience, however, is not restricted to just the United Kingdom. We have collaborated with specifiers and consultants on refurbishment projects in many countries including the United States, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, France and Germany. Projects supplied have included banks, salvage yards, car manufacturing facilities, prisons and military installations.
